I am so excited we are in the first week of this springs One Room Challenge!!!! Since we moved into our house in 2017 we have been slowly renovating our home one room at a time and documenting everything with our One Room Challenge makeovers. So far we’ve finished Jacks room, Coco and Floras room and our formal living room. I love that we can look back at all the before photos to remember what we started with! When choosing what room to tackle this round, we debated between our master bedroom, family room or basement. After going over the pros and cons, we both decided on our…….. BASEMENT!!! Although our family room isn’t where I’d like it to be, it works really well for us now, and as much as I would love to redo our master bedroom, we agreed finishing the basement would add more ‘livable’ space to our home! When we purchased the home, we loved the idea of installing carpet and making it a playroom for the kids. Since moving in, I’ve been going over ideas in my head of how I wanted the space to function and have finally nailed down some design ideas that I’m really excited about! Here is the space currently. (If you look closely you’ll see all the kids scribbles on the wall!)
The ceilings are pretty low, especially by the bulkheads which makes it perfect for a kids playroom 😉
I’m hoping to make the open space under the stairs a fun little nook!
After asking Coco and Jack what they would like to see in their new playroom, here is what we came up with for the (kid approved) wish-list:
1. Lots of toy storage thats easy to access
2. Comfy seating with pillows they can use to build forts
3. Book storage / library
4. Oversized chalkboard
5. Craft table
6. Open play area
7. Hidden room / door
I’ve also loved getting their input for the design. I asked them each what colours they would like to see. Jack asked for blue, which I was expecting, and Coco asked for black and white, (which I of course wasn’t going to argue with 😉 I’m going to keep it mainly black and white, and have plans for some blue and pink accents in the space. Here are the inspirational images for the design:
I can’t wait to get started and see the space come together. I’ll be finalizing the details this week and sharing the full design with you guys next week. You can follow us on Instagram to see more of the behind the scenes!
Also, a reminder to follow along with the other 19 bloggers room makeovers!
