We are already into week 2 of the One Room Challenge, and I am so excited with how much we’ve completed! (If you missed my post last week about our plans for the space, you can see them here!) After moving into our home, I knew pretty quickly how I wanted the space to work and what layout would work best. However, I kept changing my mind on what direction to take for the design. I love so many different styles and was struggling to choose just one. After many hours of searching and pinning, I was able to settle on a sort of California Casual look. I wanted the room to feel ‘formal’ but not fussy, and since we have a separate family room I thought it was the perfect excuse to go with a light colour palette. I love the idea of using neutral tones, organic fabrics and delicate patterns in the room!

As far as progress in the room, Steve was able to work a bunch of evenings to get all the demo done and centre the doorway on the room. I can not tell you how much better it looks! Even though the doorway is only 6″ wider, it totally changes the feel and flow of the space. This past weekend here in Canada was Thanksgiving so we were able to take advantage of the holiday Monday and get the hardwood installed before dinner with my family. It is the same hardwood we installed on our second floor and I love how it looks.

This boy worked the whole time!

Some items have started to arrive including these textiles from Annie Selke. They are even prettier in person! This coming week we are planning to get the drywall taped and mudded and get the floors sanded and stained. Wish us luck!
And of course, be sure to check in on all the other one room challenge participants!
