I had way too much fun designing this room for my little boy, and am so happy with the ORC transformation over the last 6 weeks! My starting point for the design was an equestrian feel. I didn’t want it to be over powering, but loved the boyish combination of leather, shiplap and plaid! I also really wanted to personalize the space for him, and incorporate some of his favourite things.
(If you haven’t seen the before images yet, you can view them here!)
We were working down to the wire on installing the shiplap ceiling, but it was so worth it! I love the texture and character it adds to the space. We ended up going with 8″ MDF planks and installed it with 3/16″ spacing. We used bondo, as oppose to wood filler, to fill in all the holes, which gave it a really seamless look. The edges were finished with a small 3/4″ painted wood trim. I also am thrilled with how the milk glass flush mount looks on it!
I love that a chalkboard wall allows kids to be creative and “add” to the decor.
I love this train night light, and the wall letter for his name!
My son is such a typical boy, and loves everything to do with sports. To play off that, I incorporated images of sports equipment, and included a football and baseball into the design. I also used his wood train set, vintage toy phone, and some of his favourite stuffed animals to accessories the space. The leather horse collar was also a great way to add some leather to this corner. I snagged it up a while back at a flea market and am so happy I finally found the perfect spot for it!
I love that the room looks styled, but is still functional and fun for a little boy! It has already become a spot where he builds, colours and plays.
I’m more then excited to see the rest of the guest participants room reveal – See them all here!
